PSAT/NMSQT

The PSAT Exam is given annually on October 16th and October 19th. Though all high schoolers can take the PSAT test, only 11th graders are qualified for the scholarships. We recommend 11th grade students start with SAT/ACT prep beginning in April so that they are well prepared to take both the PSAT and the SAT in October, November or December. The test is 2 hours and 10 minutes long and is divided into 5 sections - testing skills in Math, Critical Reading and Writing. Each section on the PSAT has a scaled score from 20-80 points.

The most common reasons for taking the PSAT/NMSQT are to:

  • Receive feedback on necessary skill sets for college study.  Your student can then focus on those areas that will be most beneficial with additional study or practice.
  • See how the performance by your son and daughter on an admissions test might compare with that of other college applicants.
  • Enter the competition for scholarships from NMSC (grade 11).
  • Help prepare for the SAT.  Students can become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions that will be seen on the SAT.
